Overview

The difference between glimpsing the Serengeti and actually spending time in it is one full day, and that is what this itinerary buys. Instead of passing through on the way to the crater, you go out early with picnic lunches and stay out, which is when the light is best and the predators are still working.The Serengeti is one of very few places where all three African jackal species occur together, alongside spotted hyena and a range of smaller predators from the termite-eating aardwolf to the serval. The safari then drops into the Ngorongoro Crater before returning overland to Arusha and on to Nairobi by shuttle. Park entrance fees, accommodation, all meals on safari and a professional English-speaking guide are included throughout.

   Your guide meets you at the airport or your hotel for breakfast and a full briefing before you set off for the Serengeti with lunch en route, arriving for an afternoon game drive. Buffalo, giraffe, eland, impala, Grant’s gazelle, lion, cheetah, leopard and jackal are resident here year round, and the migration adds wildebeest, zebra and Thomson’s gazelle when it passes through. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

   A full day on the plains with picnic lunches carried with you. Beyond lion, leopard and cheetah, this is one of the few places where you can find all three African jackal species, along with spotted hyena, aardwolf and serval. Dinner and overnight at your campsite.

   A last Serengeti game drive this morning, then lunch en route to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You arrive in the evening for your first view from the rim, with dinner and overnight to follow.

   Down onto the crater floor for the morning, through grassland, swamp and along the shore of the soda lake. Picnic lunch inside the caldera, then the climb back to the rim and the drive to Arusha, where you check into your hotel for the night.
