3-Day Tsavo East and Salt Lick Lodge Private Safari from Diani

Overview

A short, easy safari from the Kenyan coast that combines two very different wildlife experiences in three days.Leave Diani or Mombasa early in the morning and head inland to Tsavo East National Park, one of Kenya’s largest parks. It is known for its big herds of elephants, which take on a red colour from dust-bathing in the park’s soil. Spend your first night at Voi Safari Lodge, overlooking a busy waterhole.On day two, continue to the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, a private sanctuary beneath the Taita Hills with fewer vehicles than the national parks. Your second night is at Salt Lick Safari Lodge. The lodge is built on stilts above floodlit waterholes, so you can watch elephants and other animals arrive to drink after dark, right from your room or the viewing deck.After a final early-morning game drive, you return to your beach hotel or Mombasa Airport by late afternoon.This is a private safari. Your vehicle and driver-guide are for your group only, and the trip can start on any day, subject to lodge availability. It suits couples, families and travellers staying on the coast who want a proper safari without a long journey. Children aged 5 and over are welcome.

Infants are children up to 4. Children are up to 12. Minimum age is 5 years. Children aged 5 to 12 receive a discount on the adult rate, confirmed in your quote, as it depends on room sharing and lodge child rates. Children aged 13 and over pay the adult rate.

   Diani or Mombasa to Tsavo East National Park

   Your driver-guide collects you from your Diani or Mombasa hotel, or from Mombasa Airport, at around 06:00. After a 2 to 3-hour drive inland along the Mombasa–Nairobi highway, you enter Tsavo East at Bachuma Gate and start your first game drive with the roof raised. Look out for red elephants, giraffe, buffalo, zebra and many antelope species. Arrive at Voi Safari Lodge for lunch, rest during the heat of the day, then head out for an afternoon game drive from 16:00 to 18:00. In the evening, watch animals at the lodge’s waterhole.

   Tsavo East to Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary

   Start with an early-morning game drive at 06:30, the best time of day to look for lions and other predators, then return to the lodge for breakfast. Check out and game drive your way out of the park, continuing to the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary. After lunch at Taita Hills Safari Resort and Spa, transfer to Salt Lick Safari Lodge to check in. An afternoon game drive in the sanctuary runs from 16:00 to 18:00. After dinner, watch the floodlit waterholes from the lodge, where elephants are frequent visitors at night.

   Enjoy a final early-morning game drive in the sanctuary, then return to the lodge for breakfast. Check out at around 10:00 with a last game drive on the way out, then begin the drive back to the coast, stopping for lunch along the way. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel in Diani or Mombasa, or at Mombasa Airport, at around 16:00.

• You book your own international flights.
• A transfer from and back to the airport is included.
• Extra nights before or after the trip can be arranged for an extra cost.
• We collect you from your hotel in Diani or Mombasa, or from Moi International Airport (MBA), at around 06:00 on Day 1. You’re dropped back at your hotel or the airport at around 16:00 on Day 3. If you’re flying in on the day the safari starts, you’ll need to land early in the morning, so we usually recommend a night on the coast first. If you’re flying out on the last day, please book a flight leaving after about 18:30. Travellers arriving on domestic flights can also be collected from Ukunda Airstrip (UKA) in Diani. Extra hotel nights before or after the safari can be arranged at an additional cost.
